What is BDNF and What Does it Do?

BDNF – or Brain-Derived Neurotrophic Factor – is a naturally occurring protein that is produced by nerve cells.

It can be thought of as “brain fertilizer” because BDNF is responsible for neurogenesis – the creation of new neurons.

(Neurons are the specialized “nerve” cells in our body that transmit nerve impulses.)
